About VLP

Visual Language Professionals (VLP) is a professional association that was founded in 2010 by BSL/English Interpreters. The purpose was for language professionals to support each other on a local and national level, to promote and maintain high standards of sign language interpreting, and to encourage good practice throughout the profession.

Since its launch, VLP has grown and gone from strength to strength. Its membership has now expanded to include BSL/English Translators, Intralingual Interpreters, Trainee Sign Language Interpreters, Translators and Intralingual Interpreters, Lipspeakers, and Deafblind Interpreters. At the organisation’s heart is its welcoming, friendly membership and supportive environment.

VLP have always strived to keep organisational costs as low as possible, leading to an unbeatable price for membership that remains affordable for Deaf and hearing professionals at all stages of their careers. 2025 annual membership fees are £75 for qualified members and £70 for trainee members.

VLP members benefit from a free CPD programme of webinars included in their membership, with new trainers and topics sourced continually. On joining, new members have access to our entire library of pre-recorded webinars and associated resources.

In addition, other CPD options are provided at an affordable price, such as online live small group seminars and training. VLP networks have also been established for groups of members who share an interest, status, or region of the UK; these are volunteer-led and free to join. We welcome members coming forward to discuss running new networks.

If you would like to know more or have a query regarding VLP, you are welcome to contact us through our contact page.
