It’s that time of year yet again when we ask you to renew your membership BEFORE 1st April 2019.
VLP is evolving to become a company limited by guarantee and shall trade as Visual Language Professionals Ltd; this change has been a complex process that has allowed us to scrutinise our current policies and procedures to ensure that we continue to operate in line with the aims and best interests of the organisation, the Management Committee and its members.
There will be some changes, most notably to the categories of membership and to the co-opting and election of new directors. Going forward, co-opting of, and elections for, directors will be undertaken in line with information detailed in the Articles, which will soon be available on our website.
VLP Ltd will have three categories of membership; Full (£47), Student (£42) and Non-Practising (£0). The criteria for membership will soon be available on our website.
On renewal, and for those joining from 1st April, members will join Visual Language Professionals Ltd.
Visual Language Professionals Ltd (VLP) members can continue to benefit from an exclusive Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) Policy insured by Zurich Insurance plc, and arranged through specialist insurance brokers MFL Professional*.
Existing VLP members who already take advantage of this facility can continue to buy their PII cover by specifically electing to do so, and the premium required will be unaltered from last year at £28 inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax (IPT), for cover of £250,000 per claim. There will also be an option to purchase a higher level of cover and/or to include Public Liability insurance.
Although it is open to members make their own insurance arrangements, i.e. to insure outside the Zurich policy, we are assured by MFL Professional that it is highly unlikely you would be able to obtain the same level of cover for a lower cost: consequently, we would strongly recommend that you choose to renew through the MFL Professional facility, especially those members whose registration with NRCPD, SASLI and/or RBSLI requires them to have such insurance cover.
We would also remind members that the facility automatically provides cover for an additional 24 month period, to provide continued protection for claims made against them after ceasing to practise as a sign language interpreter (either permanently through retirement, or temporarily, through, for example maternity leave).
Student members will also be eligible to insure through the Zurich policy: premiums start at a slightly higher £33.60 inclusive of IPT for cover of £250,000 per claim.
In order to take advantage of the continued good value offered by the Zurich PII Policy, you will need to follow the link provided on the VLP website at the point of renewing your membership.
This link will take you to the MFL Professional website, where you will find the supporting policy information, terms of business and have the ability to renew, pay and obtain your renewal policy documents. The link will become available from 18/03/2019 (2 weeks prior to renewal of the existing facility).
Should you have any questions, please email them to email@example.com.
Thank you for your continued support and we will notify you as soon as we open renewals.
